Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Oversee daily activities in the operating theatre, including scheduling surgeries and ensuring optimal utilization of OT resources.
- Ensure proper maintenance and availability of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Implement and enforce infection control protocols and ensure sterile practices are followed.
- Monitor OT readiness, including cleanliness, functionality of equipment, and availability of consumables.
2. Staff Supervision and Coordination:
- Manage and coordinate the OT team, including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and support staff.
- Allocate staff assignments based on skill sets and operational needs.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to the OT team to ensure high standards of performance.
- Conduct regular staff evaluations and address performance issues when necessary.
3. Patient Care and Safety:
- Ensure that preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care protocols are adhered to.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to address patient needs and any intraoperative complications.
- Uphold patient safety standards and participate in reviews of surgical outcomes.
4. Inventory and Resource Management:
- Maintain inventory of surgical instruments, consumables, and medications.
- Oversee procurement and budgeting for OT supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate with the biomedical team for timely servicing and repairs of OT equipment.
5. Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, healthcare regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation, including surgery schedules, patient records, and incident reports.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
6. Crisis and Emergency Management:
- Act as the point of contact for handling OT-related emergencies and unexpected issues.
- Develop contingency plans for emergencies such as equipment failure, staffing shortages, or increased surgical demand.
7. Communication and Liaison:
- Act as a liaison between the OT and other hospital departments (e.g., ICU, recovery room, supply chain).
- Facilitate effective communication among surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and administrative teams.
8. Continuous Improvement and Development:
- Identify areas for operational improvement and implement best practices.
- Stay updated with advancements in surgical procedures, technology, and OT management techniques.
- Organize or participate in training programs and workshops to enhance team skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or a related field (preferably with OT specialization).
- Extensive experience in an operating theatre, with proven leadership and managerial abilities.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and decision-making capabilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, patient safety standards, and infection control practices.
